Mission
The mission of the San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame is to present, recognize and honor outstanding women in the community for their service and contributions through induction into the organization; and to provide funding to support higher education attainment for deserving local women pursuing a college education, and to promote their individual development in order to improve their status, interests, and needs of our community.
Happy Summer!
The Annual Meeting of the San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame is the opportunity for members to join together to hear a summary of activities for the year, hear an inspirational speaker and elect the officers and board of director members for the upcoming year. Judge Yolanda Huff will be the featured guest speaker at this year’s meeting.
As you can see it is an important event associated with your SAWHOF membership. The Annual Meeting is this Saturday, June 15, 2024. The meeting will be held at the SAWS Headquarter main building from 9 – 11 AM. Be sure to register to attend if you have not already done so.
Member Request
SAWHOF member Norma Maldonado shares this request as you plan to attend the Annual Meeting on 6/15/24: I am requesting that members consider donating gently used or new PK-5th grade children’s books.
These books will be added to the San Antonio Retired Teacher’s Association (SAARTA) Children’s Book Project. The purpose is to put books into the hands of children.
SAARTA distributes books to elementary campuses throughout Bexar County. This past month we have already provided hundreds of books to students at Price, Kriewald and Dorie Miller Elementaries. The PK-5th grade students were thrilled to have their very own books to take home and enjoy over the summer. And they do not have to bring it back – it’s theirs! We also donate books to other facilities young children may be temporarily, i.e., children shelters, neighborhood centers and summer programs. I believe, like many members of SAARTA, there are members of the SAWHOF who have grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other friends/relatives who may have age appropriate books for elementary children that they would like to donate for a worthy cause. If you want additional information contact Norma Maldonado ngm-edu@earthlink.net or 210-724-6058.
