The Honorable Stephanie R. Boyd is the Presiding Judge of the 187th Judicial District Court, a felony court in Bexar County, Texas. She made history as the first African American and first woman to serve as judge of the 187th District Court.
Judge Boyd earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Master of Business Administration, and Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s University and brings 29 years of legal experience as a prosecutor, defense attorney, and community advocate. She served as a first chair prosecutor in the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office Special Crimes Unit, where she handled complex cases involving child abuse and domestic violence, and has tried numerous high profile criminal cases.
As presiding judge, Judge Boyd has reduced case backlogs, implemented rehabilitative probation programs, and championed transparency by expanding virtual access to court proceedings. She has been a leader in innovative treatment courts, including the Felony Drug Court, Esperanza Court for survivors of sex trafficking, and the Adult Mental Health Court, which emphasize accountability, recovery, and reduced recidivism.
In addition to her judicial service, Judge Boyd teaches at the University of Texas at San Antonio, mentoring students and supporting youth-focused education, scholarship, and transition programs to promote equity and community success.
