Volunteerism

Velma Willoughby Kemp is a dynamic leader and advocate for education, cultural enrichment, and community empowerment.

A graduate of the University of Central Arkansas with a BBA in Marketing, Velma was the first Executive Director of the Community of Churches for Social Action in San Antonio.

There, her leadership helped secure millions in scholarships and contributed to the establishment of the Claude and Zernona Black Endowment.

Her expertise in organization and team-building has enriched numerous community initiatives.

As a board member of the San Antonio Area African American Community Fund, she led impactful grant distributions to local nonprofits.

She also serves on the Boards of Trustees for Stark College and Seminary and San Antonio’s Meals on Wheels.

Velma’s commitment to uplifting women and girls is evident through her work with The Links, Incorporated, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, The Oakes Club, and SA100.

As the First Lady of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, she leads the Sisterhood Ministry with grace and vision.

Above all, Velma cherishes her roles as a mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and wife, shaping a legacy of compassion and transformative impact in San Antonio.
