Civic Leadership
Teresa’s journey in Civic Leadership began early, influenced by her immigrant mother’s advocacy for bilingual education in Chicago Public Schools.
Starting as a TV reporter, she addressed community issues, later transitioning to roles in Chicago’s Mayor’s Office and eventually the Clinton and Obama Administrations, always focused on community needs.
A San Antonio resident since 1996, Teresa worked for Port SA and the San Antonio Express-News before advocating for Affordable Healthcare in DC in 2009.
In the Obama Administration, she initiated a Promotoras program, enrolling over 7M Latinos. Returning in 2017, she became President of the Alta Vista Neighborhood Association, revising a Neighborhood Conservation District to preserve housing.
While at University Health, she facilitated COVID vaccinations for thousands in 2020.
As VP for University Relations at UTSA, she oversees Government Relations, Strategic Communications, Marketing, and Community Relations.
Throughout her career, Teresa has stood up for community issues, demonstrating unwavering dedication to Civic Leadership.
