Science & Technology

Dr. Browning, a distinguished professional, has made significant contributions to STEM education and leadership.

Currently serving as Interim Vice President for Research at UTSA, she previously served as Dean of the Klesse College of Engineering and Integrated Design from 2014 to 2023.

Throughout her career, Dr. Browning has been a staunch advocate for increasing women’s participation in STEM disciplines.

In the 1990s, female engineers nationwide represented less than 20%. Recognizing this disparity, she took proactive steps as Dean to address it. Under her leadership, female representation in UTSA’s engineering programs grew from under 20% to over 30%.

Dr. Browning believes in leaders who serve as role models and founded UTSA’s first Student Success Center to support students through mentorship and access to resources.

She also focused on increasing female faculty representation at the Klesse College, which grew from under 15% to 24% under her leadership. This provided role models and support for female students, addressing issues like imposter syndrome and work-life balance.

Dr. Browning’s commitment to promoting success for underrepresented groups in STEM has earned her recognition, including Purdue University’s Distinguished Woman Scholar award and INSIGHT into Diversity magazine’s Inspiring Women in STEM award.

She also received the San Antonio Business Journal Women’s Leadership Award.
