Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Angela “Angie” Salinas

Angela “Angie” Salinas, Major General, U.S. Marine Corps (Ret.), serves as Chief Executive Officer of Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas. 
 
Salinas served 39 years in the U.S. Marine Corps and became the first Latina promoted to the Corps’ general officer ranks. When she retired in 2013, she was the senior-ranking woman and Hispanic Marine. A trailblazer for women in the Corps, she earned numerous military decorations, including the Defense Superior Service Medal and, upon retirement, the Navy Distinguished Service Medal. 
 
Her many accolades include the U.S. Hispanic Leadership Institute’s Lifetime Achievement Award, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s Latinas in Service Award, and the San Antonio National Association of Women Business Owners’ Outstanding Woman in Non-Profit Award. She has also been inducted into the U.S. Veterans Hall of Fame and the San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame, and she has received the NCAA Legacy Award, the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce Tribute to Women Business Leaders Hope Award, and the San Antonio Business Journal Women’s Leadership Award. 
 
Salinas holds a Master of Arts from the Naval War College and a bachelor’s degree from Dominican College of San Rafael, California. She has also received honorary doctorates from Dominican University of California and Loyola University New Orleans.
